Measuring Growth While Educating the Whole Child
Academic Growth at Immanuel Lutheran School
At Immanuel Lutheran School, we are committed to educating the whole child—academically, spiritually, and socially. As part of that commitment, we use trusted assessment tools to measure student growth and guide instruction while maintaining a Christ-centered learning environment.
Students in Kindergarten through Grade 8 participate in NWEA MAP® (Measures of Academic Progress) assessments three times throughout the school year. These assessments help teachers understand where students are academically and how to best support their continued growth.

Understanding NWEA MAP Assessments
NWEA MAP assessments measure student progress in:
- Mathematics
- Reading
- Language Usage
The assessments are adaptive, meaning questions adjust based on student responses. This allows teachers to see not just whether a student meets grade-level expectations, but how much growth they make over time.
Assessment results are used to:
- Identify strengths and areas for growth
- Inform instructional planning
- Provide individualized academic support
- Monitor progress throughout the school year

Multiple Measures of Student Success
NWEA MAP assessments are just one part of how student learning is evaluated at Immanuel Lutheran School. Teachers also use a variety of additional tools and observations to gain a complete picture of student progress.
Additional assessments include:
- ESGI assessments for Kindergarten students
- Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessments for reading levels
- Kindergarten through Grade 4
- Classroom tests and quizzes across content areas
- Teacher observations and daily classroom work
Combined with
small class sizes
and strong teacher-student relationships, this data allows teachers to tailor instruction to meet the individual needs of each student.
