A Great Year at Immanuel Lutheran

May 2023

We’ve reached the last month of the school year! May is packed with many fun activities. Our sixth graders will be headed to Walcamp for a day of outdoor education and the fourth graders are headed to the Midway Village Museum. A favorite school day of many students and staff members is the annual Race for Education, a walkathon-style fundraiser. We are hoping for good weather as students walk around the parking lots for a specific amount of time on May 11.

This month, we are hosting a Fine Arts Night on May 9. Our students from kindergarten through eighth grade will each have a brief performance; our band and piano students will play a few songs and the students’ artwork and writing projects will be displayed throughout the building. The book fair will be open too. We look forward to welcoming parents and grandparents to see a sampling of the students’ work from this school year.

Preparations have begun for our annual golf outing. It will be held on June 6 in the afternoon at Timber Pointe Golf Club at 12:00 p.m. Check out the following website for more details, information about signing up, and opportunities to sponsor various parts of the outing: https://bit.ly/ImmanuelDDayOpen2023

The end of the school year is a good time to review some highlights and this year we had plenty of them.

  • Many new extracurricular activities and clubs were established: Cooking Club, Drama Club, Art Club, Computer Club, and Lego Club.
  • Kindergarten–third grade students were able to participate in piano lessons.
  • We welcomed seven new faculty members: Mr. Rogers, Mrs. Phillips, Miss Strieter, Ms. Nelson, Mrs. Gillingham, Miss Koehler, and Mr. Engel.
  • MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Testing occurred three times throughout the school year. These assessments provide teachers with accurate data regarding student performance and growth.
  • We piloted a redesigned chapel program.
  • Pastor Richard & Mrs. Kortze visited many classrooms and formed relationships with students.
  • The PTL hosted three events: Pumpkin Walk, Father-Daughter Dance, and Mother-Son Bowling.
  • Classes resumed participation in field trips both off and on campus after years of limited field trips due to COVID-19 restrictions.
  • We had fundraising events including the auction in the fall and trivia night last winter.
  • We hosted a large Grandparents/Special Friends’ Day after years of limited interactions with visitors during the school day due to COVID-19 restrictions.
  • ILS continued its participation in the accreditation process through NLSA
  • The school website was redesigned and promotional materials were distributed to the families of prospective students.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow! The 2022-23 school year has been a great school year.
