Sprint to the Finish Line

April 2023

We have just two months of the school year left! This time of year feels like a sprint to the finish line. This month, we welcome NAMI to host a free parent presentation, titled “Mental Health and Children.” This is the fourth and last parent presentation of the school year. We have been glad to partner with Immanuel Lutheran Church to provide these presentations, which are full of Christian resources, to our families!

The Northern Illinois District of the LCMS hosts a district-wide serving event this month. Our Pre-K through eighth grade students are participating in this service event during our Grandparents/Special Friends’ Day. The Pre-K students will create cards for nursing home residents and shut-ins and the kindergarten through eighth grade students will make blankets and toys for the Boone County Animal Shelter. We’re looking forward to an afternoon of fun with our Grandparents/Special Friends on April 21!

Immanuel Lutheran Church is hosting Concordia University Nebraska’s choir in April. Our own Singing Knights choir will perform with Concordia’s choir at a concert held in our church sanctuary on April 16. What a great event of singing praises to God and learning more about a Lutheran university. Towards the end of the school year, many classes take field trips. In April, the second graders are visiting the Boone County Conservation District, the third graders participate in an overnight trip to Walcamp, and the seventh graders travel to Springfield to see the Illinois government in action.

Immanuel is accredited through NLSA (National Lutheran School Accreditation). Every five years, we participate in the accreditation process. The accreditation steering committee has been working hard over the past year in preparation for the accreditation validation team to visit ILS at the end of the month. As a part of this process, we will receive an action plan of specific items to work through over the next five school years.

The Search Committee is looking for three full-time faculty members: Pre-K teacher (for three-year-olds in the morning and three- and four-year-olds in the afternoon), fifth grade teacher, and middle school language arts teacher. God has great plans for Immanuel; we look forward to welcoming the faculty members to our team for the 2023-24 school year.

God’s richest blessings to you!
